Turn a Sources Annex Into a Supplier Question List

A worked example is most easily misused at the moment a number looks official. The Sources Annex in Laundromat Starter helps you avoid that. You can turn each example assumption into a question you ask before relying on any figure of your own.

What the annex gives you

According to the Starter FAQ, the Sources Annex records a source class, a date and a reference for each of the 69 example assumptions. These are example inputs for one location and start date: St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida, starting January 2027, in nominal USD. They are not values to copy into your plan. The FAQ says to use the annex to check how current and how relevant each input is to your own site, and to decide which ones you must replace with your own quotes and data.

Step 1: Read each row with three tests

For every assumption, ask:

  1. Class. What kind of source stood behind this input?
  2. Date. How old is it, compared with the date you would need?
  3. Relevance. Does that source speak about your location, your equipment and your lease, or about the example site only?

Step 2: Sort the rows

Put each row into one of three groups:

For the last group, the Quick Check help says to mark the input Unknown and verify it before relying on a screening result. It also says missing information is not the same as zero.

Step 3: Write the question yourself

Turn each row into a plain question for the person who holds the answer. For a quote row, ask what the quote includes and excludes, what date it carries and how long it stays valid. For a records row, ask which period and which documents show the figure. Keep the row's topic, not its example value, as the starting point, because the example value belongs to a different site.

Step 4: Record each answer with its type

As you collect answers, note the source type (Quote, Published source, My estimate or Unknown), a short note and a date. These are the same four labels used by the Quick Check. The tool records your label but does not check your source, so the checking stays with you.

Using the example in your own work

Starter supplies a fixed 13-page report and a separate Sources Annex in Word and PDF. Editing the Word file recalculates nothing. The example case has a negative result under its stated assumptions; your site's outcome depends on your own inputs.

Use the report and annex as references in your internal or client projects, and credit short quotations. Write your own supplier questions: the licence does not permit sharing, selling or publishing the original report or annex files. The supplementary planning tools have their own licence, which does not extend to those files.

Starter gives you the structure and the evidence trail. Your site's prices, volumes, utilities and permits must come from your own sources.
